Christmas Tree Advanced Course

The Christmas tree course is an advanced course, which when run as a whole includes inside barrels and distractions.
Here I have broken down which sections we worked through , before some of the teams ran it as a whole. It was lots of fun.

This course really tests cue understanding and timing of your body language. I have always found that handlers usually want to turn their shoulders before a dog is at a barrel thus can pull the dog off the barrel . Especially if the distances between obstacles are larger. Here the distances are between 6 metres and 8 metres.

The top section, breakdown 4 ,can be further broken down if you need to reward the inside barrel at 8.
Though the top triangle hasn’t any distraction obstacles other than some dogs may want to carry on from barrel 10 to barrel 6 if the handler hasn’t moved up to position themselves in the centre of the top triangle.

Progression Level

When handling the whole course handlers stood in the top half of the first triangle then moved into the second triangle after the first inside barrel at 12 .

Then most of our handlers stayed in the second triangle after the inside barrel at 18 therefore barrel 21 was also an inside barrel .
